Compose Yourself! Letterpress Workshop

Learn the basics of composing letterpress type and how to lock a form into a tabletop sign press. Each student will compose a short text of their choice and ink their form by hand. Students can also choose from the 4 Acre collection of cuts (type high image blocks) to complement their text. No experience necessary, this is an introductory level course. This class limited to 3 spaces so that each student can work on their own Showcard sign press.

We will compose our type first, break for a lunch you bring from home, and print in the afternoon.

Syd will provide 25 sheets 110lb cotton cover stock, sized 6’’ x 9’’ inches. Students are welcome to bring additional 60 – 110lb stock if they wish to test their printing on different colors. Paper should have a smooth finish. Textured paper could damage vintage type. No need to cut it to size.

5hrs, 10am – 3pm: 10 – 12:30 composing – 1- 3pm printing
